This clip is already all over the internet and many Texas Stars fans probably don’t want to be reminded about the debacle with KXAN News last night, Austin’s NBC Affiliate.
But here it is:
The news team did apologize during the broadcast, ironically after a segment about hockey’s growing popularity in Austin.
In another bit of odd news, Austin had one of the largest overnight TV ratings in Texas with a 2.4. That’s higher than Dallas (2.1), Houston (1.5) and San Antonio (1.1), the other cities with NHL or AHL franchise during the 2012-13 season.
What does that mean? That roughly 2.4 percent of the Nation’s 11th largest city missed the game-winning goal in overtime. According to this report in Sept. 2012 Austin’s TV market is 705,280 homes. Which means just under 20,000 homes (not people) were watching when the commercial came on.
All four Texas markets where actually trumped by Oklahoma City, another AHL market, which had a 3.3 overnight rating.
Thanks to Steve Lepore for helping with the ratings numbers
