Luke Gazdic is now an Edmonton Oiler.
The fan-favorite Texas Stars enforcer was claimed off waivers this morning, as first reported by TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

This means Gazdic will be headed to Edmonton and join the NHL roster. He will not be a member of the Oklahoma City Barons, Texas’ divisional rival, right away. If Edmonton wants to send him to OKC he’d have to clear waivers.
Gazdic had been an original member of the Texas Stars and played in at least 49 games in each of his four seasons.
If I had to guess, Gazdic played his way into Edmonton’s cross hairs this preseason. Texas Stars general manager Scott White had told me Gazdic had impressed him at Dallas training camp, appearing in three pre-season games before being placed on waivers yesterday.
Another reason might be the brass at Oklahoma City, Edmonton’s affiliate, thought highly of Gazdic in AHL battles the past four years and sent the notes to the NHL club.
The good news for Texas Stars fans is that Travis Morin, Colton Sceviour and Cristopher Nilstorp all cleared waivers. All three could be assigned to Texas today.
