Brett Ritchie is hoping to return to the Texas Stars lineup in time for Wednesday’s game against the Utica Comets.
Ritchie has been out since suffering an undisclosed lower-body injury against the Grand Rapids Griffins on Nov. 15. He didn’t practice with the team during the injury and returned to practice Monday.
“It’s only been two and half weeks but it’s felt like three months,” Ritchie said. “I’m excited to get back in … I hate watching the games to be honest. Usually I just stay in the room and watch them on the TV.”
Ritchie said he was working out on his own and “doing whatever” he could to get back into the game.
“My first time on the ice was yesterday (Monday),” Ritchie said. “It was one of those things where it was tough to skate. But I could do a lot of other things and stay at it.”
He felt good after practice Tuesday and was going to meet with the training staff to discuss potentially playing Wednesday.
“He’s day-to-day and hopefully he’ll be up and running here tomorrow,” Stars coach Derek Laxdal said. “For us we’ve got to make sure he’s pretty close to being healed … if we can get him back in the lineup that’ll be a big shot of energy for our hockey club.”
