The Dallas Stars have reassigned Henri Kiviaho to the Idaho Steelheads, Texas Stars coach Derek Laxdal said after practice Wednesday.
Kiviaho was called up Saturday and backed up Jussi Rynnas while Jack Campbell was fighting an undisclosed injury. Campbell returned to practice today and Laxdal he’s healthy enough for the Stars’ two games this weekend against the Charlotte Checkers.
Laxdal said it was good for Kiviaho to spend a couple days with the AHL club. Texas had a more skill-based practice on Tuesday and the young Finn had a chance to face “a lot of shots.”
“Hopefully he gets some games in Idaho now,” Laxdal said. “It’s good to have the depth and I understand (Maxime) Lagace is doing pretty well in Missouri and Henri’s played a few games in Idaho there.”
Lagace has appeared in seven games for the Steelheads and has a 2.91 goals against average and .892 save percentage. Lagace has a 2.17 GAA and .913 save percentage in six games for the Missouri Mavericks.
“Obviously he’s not playing heavy minutes, but it’s a chance for him to understand and develop the pro game,” Laxdal said. “Goaltenders have a different evolution and progression than players. It takes a little bit longer. For (Kiviaho), he seems a little more confident and that will help transition into his game down in Idaho.”
