Jim Nill has consistently preached that he wants his young defensemen on the ice, not watching from the press box.
So, with the NHL on its annual All-Star Break the Dallas Stars have reassigned Jyrki Jokipakka and Jamie Oleksiak to the Texas Stars, a move that should give both players heavy ice time in back-to-back games this weekend against the Chicago Wolves.
It should be a quick trip for the duo and I would expect both players to fly back to Dallas on Sunday.
It’s a short-term move, but it’s a much needed boost for Texas, which has lost to the San Antonio Rampage on Tuesday night and may need four points this weekend to stay in the playoff race.
Texas has 41 points and currently sits in 10th place in the conference. With a sweep against Chicago (45 points, seventh) they could move into a tie for seventh.

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced today defensemen Jamie Oleksiak and Jyrki Jokipakka have been reassigned to the team from Dallas.
Oleksiak (oh-LEHK-see-ak), 22, has registered eight points (one goal, seven assists), eight penalty minutes and 28 shots on goal in 31 games for Dallas this season. The Toronto, Ontario native has skated in four games with Texas this season, posting three assists and a +1 plus/minus rating. The 6-foot-7, 250-pound defenseman was selected by Dallas in the first round (14th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
Jokipakka (YIHR-kee YOH-kee-pah-kuh), 23, has appeared in 19 games for Dallas this season, posting five assists and 16 shots on goal. The defenseman has registered four points (three goals, one assist) in 15 games for Texas so far in 2014-15. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Tampere, Finland was selected by Dallas in the seventh round (195th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
