One of the Texas Stars potentially biggest off-season dramas was eliminated Friday when Travis Morin signed a two-year contract extension with the Dallas Stars.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but it’s likely his AHL salary is somewhere between $250,000 and $300,000. Morin is making $175,000 this season on the AHL portion of his deal.

Morin was set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. He could have potentially signed with another NHL club where depth at center would have been more conducive to making the NHL roster.

With Dallas, Morin’s future likely lies as an NHL-AHL swing player. One that can provide leadership in the AHL, but still play meaningful minutes in the NHL if needed.

Update: I had a phone conversation with Texas Stars GM Scott White about the signing, here are some tweets about that conversation.
