Ludwig Bystrom could make his Texas Stars and North American debut Sunday against the Milwaukee Admirals.
The 20-year-old Swedish defenseman just finished his SHL season with Farjestads BK Karlstad and is flying into Austin this evening.
“That’ll give us a little bit of depth on our backend,” Texas Stars coach Derek Laxdal said. “If we need him we can use him tomorrow night and obviously on Tuesday. It’s that time of year where you start to bring in some players that will be here next year.
“Obviously you want to run with the guys you have. But if they’re going to give you a little bit of that extra push and extra energy, you’ve got to use them when you can.”
It’s an opportune time for Bystrom’s arrival, Dallas’ 43rd overall pick in 2012.
Julius Honka is out this weekend with an upper-body injury until at least Tuesday, leaving Texas with six healthy defenseman.
