Texas Stars goalie Jack Campbell is going to miss a couple weeks with a hand injury.

Mark Stepneski first reported the injury on Friday.

Campbell is still in training camp with Dallas and can’t be sent down until he’s healthy, per CBA rules.

The injury likely opens room for Philippe Desrosiers to start the season on the AHL roster with John Muse.

And it’s the window of opportunity Desrosiers was waiting for.

A couple weeks ago in Traverse City the young goalie told me his goal for the season was to “compete with Jack Campbell and be the No. 1 goalie in Austin.”

Of course, Maxime Lagace could also earn an AHL spot next to Muse.

The two goalies are splitting tonight’s preseason game and Texas Stars coach Derek Laxdal said both are “pushing to make the AHL roster.” Laxdal also said which goalie plays Sunday hasn’t been set yet, and either Lagace or Desrosiers could earn that start with strong play tonight.
