CEDAR PARK — Brett Ritchie skated in a red non-contact jersey for about 15 minutes Saturday morning as the Texas Stars prepared for their season-opening game against the San Antonio Rampage.

Ritchie stepped onto the ice after Texas had already completed most of it’s formal drills, drawing a collection of stick taps and cheers from the rest of the players.

Ritchie then skated around and stick handled using primarily his left hand, he didn’t shoot any pucks or make any passes.

He had surgery in early September to repair ligaments in his right wrist, which he injured shooting a puck during the off-season. The initial time frame for the injury was three to four months, putting Ritchie’s likely return around December or January.

“He had that injury and I know that was frustrating for him, so it’s good to see him skating,” Texas Stars coach Derek Laxdal said.
