The American Hockey League is a developmental league. But building a consistent roster around prospects and developing a winning team often relies on free agency.

Think about Chris Mueller with the Texas Stars during the 2013-14 season. The free agent came in and provided an extra spark on the ice, and in the locker room, that helped Texas hoist the Calder Cup.

On July 1st, unrestricted free agents are free to the open market. The following is my ranking of the Top 100 AHL-level free agents available on July 1, 2015.

To make things clear, this is no way a scientific process.

It’s a combination of perusing stat sheets, watching players live, and looking for outside opinions to rank the best.

Check back throughout the off-season for updates on listed players, and feel free to leave any comments below.
